What makes the IB different?

As well as the fact that IB students study a broader range of subjects than their A Level counterparts, there are also differences in the content and/or the way that students study and are assessed in individual subjects. The following pages will give you some idea of what these differences are.

Core to the programme are three elements that are unique to the IB Diploma: CAS, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

CAS (Creativity, Action, Service)
CAS allows students to continue preferred extra-curricular activities in school, such as drama, music and sport. They may also add new activities and responsibilities to their day and earn CAS credit.

Students can also get recognition for their involvements outside of school.

Students have the opportunity to be involved in school, local, national and international communities.

CAS offers the opportunity to challenge oneself by participating in programmes and activities that you may not have previously.

Theory of Knowledge
This course

  • integrates  learning between the IB subjects, enabling girls to make connections between their different courses of study
  • encourages critical thinking
  • develops presentation skills
  • involves consideration of questions such as ‘What is right and wrong?’,  ‘Will science tell us everything?’,  ‘What is good art?’,  ‘Can I trust my senses?’
