A Levels

Sixth Form students who opt for the well-established, traditional A level course of study generally take four AS level subjects in Year 12, specialising in three of these subjects for A2 level in Year 13. Girls can choose from the following A level subjects at St. Helen’s:

  • Art
  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Classical Civilisation
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama and Theatre Studies
  • Economics
  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Further Mathematics
  • Geography
  • German
  • Government and Politics
  • History
  • History of Art
  • Italian
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Japanese
  • Latin
  • Mandarin
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Religious Studies
  • Spanish

In addition to the subjects being studied at A level, all girls in Year 12 complement their studies with a critical thinking course.

A-levels provide a fantastic opportunity to really focus on one or two areas that you are particularly good at and are interested in. They really give a great chance to excel in the areas you enjoy, with far more focused time to be spent on them.

The A-level course is great for in-depth learning of a few favoured subjects. They encourage independent learning with more study periods for background reading. Working with smaller subject groups means that teaching is very interactive.
