Upper School

Upper School is totally different to Middle School, as Sarah explains: “Middle School is the runway and Upper School is when you fly!”

Here are the thoughts of some of our Upper School students:

It is in Upper School that you specialise in the subjects of your choice, and although it is your first encounter with public examinations it is an exciting and new experience, because your relationships with your teachers change and it is a time to make new friends.

I am very happy in Upper School, I like the freedom, the teachers are nicer and I really enjoy my choice of subjects, particularly History and Drama.

I like spending lunch with my friends at Longworthe, we watch television, listen to music and chat.

Upper School is not just about academic study, it is about finding new challenges. The key is to get involved. Whether it is joining Combined Cadet Forces, or planning an Easter Egg Hunt for the children from RNIB Sunshine House School as part of the Community Links Project, there is something for everyone.

Duke of Edinburgh is for the hearty and anyone who likes Pot Noodles, pasta and walking.  We had such fun doing our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, we thought we would be awake all night chatting, but we were so tired we fell asleep by 9pm.

The Social Society is run by the girls for the girls. Their brief is to organise events which will be fun!

I love being a member of Social Society committee, this year we have been to see Billy Elliott and The Producer in the West End. Our Ice Cream Party was a great success and we are planning ice-skating at Kew Gardens for Christmas.

There are 8 Upper School Representatives, whose role is to work with the Head of Upper School. Regular trips to Northwood to drink hot chocolate and discuss Upper School issues is just one of the privileges. Editing the Yearbook and organizing the Year 11 Prom are two important aspects of the Representatives job.

I like being in Upper School, I think I have grown up a lot. It is hard work but FUN too.

Our next Open Morning is on Wednesday 24th June 2009.  Please click here for more details and to book a place.
