Middle School
Middle School is composed of three year groups, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. Each year group has five forms, each with a form tutor and Sixth Form monitor. The girls are, in addition, divided into teaching groups and houses and this gives them the opportunity to get to know many different girls throughout the school. Six Year 9 delegates are elected by their peers and represent Middle School on the School Council.
This is a small selection of comments written by Year 7 girls at the end of their first year.
St. Helen's isn't a school that just relies on technology to give us the answers and it isn't a school that only relies on books either. It is a school that combines the two together.
Every girl can find an interesting activity to pursue either before school, at lunchtime or after school. As well as learning new things these clubs ensure that a St. Helen's girl can simultaneously learn and have a good time.
The languages that we can learn in Year 7 are French, German, Mandarin and Spanish. In each lesson we always have fun with computers, role-plays, shows and more.
In Mathematics we have mini problem-solving activities which encourage us to think for ourselves and give us the chance to participate in a wide range of big competitions.
Bruce, Bonington, Scott, Shackleton! The pupils cheer on their houses at Sports Day and House Arts Day.
Here teachers not only encourage and support pupils, they also help them to think for themselves. Year 7 Independent Learning Week was great fun and helped us to find out what type of learners we are.
At the beginning of the year when I started learning lacrosse I could not even catch the ball but with the help of my teacher I am now on the A team and play in matches.
