Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. In the Sixth Form, Psychology is offered as an option within the International Baccalaureate. Girls study a range of psychological issues such as aggression and gender development from three contemporary perspectives to give them a balanced idea of the different goals and methods commonly found within the field of psychology.

Memory, child development, eating disorders, sleep and dreaming are among the topics which are covered in the course. There are also specialist options where students can address issues concerning abnormality and examine a range of mental disorders, or study group behaviour and the pressures of social conformity.

Coursework involves students designing and carrying out their own psychological experiment. During the course, students develop practical research skills and learn how to evaluate the research they encounter as part of their studies.
