Business Studies

What will I learn?

  • How to develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value.
  • The internal workings and management of organisations.
  • The process of decision-making in a dynamic external environment.
  • How business behaviour can be influenced by a range of people and organisations including customers, managers, creditors, owners/shareholders and employees.
  • Outside factors that influence operations of a business such as the economy, ethical considerations, laws and the government.
  • Setting objectives in a business and techniques to analyse and solve business problems.
  • How a business produces and markets its products, the importance of financial control of business and how human resources are planned.

Business will appeal to you if you:

  • Have an interest in how a business operates.
  • Enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to your life and experiences.
  • Would like to study a subject that offers opportunities for a career in business.
  • Want to keep your options open.

At the end of the Business course
Students studying AS/A2 Business have access to a wide range of career opportunities. The skills of decision making and planning that are transferable will give you a head start in careers in accountancy, marketing and human resources. Business also combines well with a range of social science, humanities and mathematics subjects to lead to university subjects in areas such as business, economics, law and accountancy.
