Department Aims
The Department is staffed by experts who have total focus on teaching the Sixth Form and who aim to achieve academic excellence within a context of learning that is enjoyable and relevant. We encourage and provide opportunities for students to take ownership of their own learning and to develop keen analytical skills.

Academic Excellence: We have a proven track record of excellent academic results in both subjects with top university placements.

Enjoyable Learning: The subjects are made relevant and current by offering a range of in-class and extra-curricular activities. We encourage inquisitive minds and independent learning.

  • Latest data is presented on interactive whiteboards in each teaching location.
  • Visiting speakers from real businesses/economy.
  • Visits e.g. Bank of England, GLA, Department visit to Prague
  • Activities e.g. Young Enterprise (girls run their own business in competitive teams; Eyewitness (sourcing and editing a monthly newspaper); Economic Film Club (recognising economic/business concepts); Investment Challenge (playing the stock market); Predict the Rate of Interest (shadowing the MPC).

Economics or Business: Skill Development
As well as covering the subject to a high level, the courses offered in Economics and Business enable you to develop some essential life skills that are transferable and will be essential to whatever you go on to do afterwards. These include:
