Departments

At St. Helen's we aim to give every girl an excellent, well-balanced academic education, developing her intellectual, creative and physical talents to the full. The curriculum is designed to support our aims and is built around the framework of the National Curriculum.

In Middle School all girls follow the same basic curriculum, which incorporates the best elements of the National Curriculum, whilst extending and enriching the Key Stage 3 programmes of study. Subject specialists teach in specialist subject areas, enabling the efficient provision of suitable teaching materials.

As girls enter Upper School, in Year 10, they embark upon their GCSE or IGCSE courses. All girls take English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and one of the Humanities. In addition to these core subjects, girls are able to choose two further subjects from a wide range of subjects.

Pupils entering the Sixth Form have a choice of programmes: either A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. We currently offer over 20 subjects at A level and for IB. Our commitment to help every girl do her best is maintained by giving a high degree of personal attention to each individual student.
