Rosie Rushton - Advice from an Author
On Tuesday 3rd November, international author Rosie Rushton visited St. Helen’s to run workshops with Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils and to hold a book signing.
Rosie Rushton began her career as a feature writer for a local paper. ‘Staying Cool, Surviving School’ was her first book, published by Piccadilly Press in 1993. After writing another non-fiction title, ‘You’re My Best Friend, I Hate You!’ (available from Puffin), Rosie turned to fiction. With over 40 books under her belt, Rosie’s latest project has been to adapt some well-loved Jane Austen classics to modern day fiction that appeals to a young teenage audience.
Speaking to the girls at St. Helen’s about her latest novels, Rosie shared some of her secrets on how to form a plot and character development. She spoke informally with the girls about what is required of you as an author, and the various processes you must go through from pen hitting paper to seeing your book in print.
