EDGE-ing towards Amphibian Conservation

On Thursday 11th February Helen Meredith, Amphibians Co-ordinator for the Zoological Society of London's EDGE project, visited St. Helen's to give a fascinating lecture on the weird and wonderful world of amphibians and the vital role that they play in our eco-systems.

The EDGE project (www.edgeofexistence.org) was set up to identifty Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered species and to raise awareness of the importance of conserving these species. It is the only programme to focus specifically on the conservation of threatened species that represent a significant amount of unique evolutionary history.

Helen spoke to students and staff about the work of the EDGE project and her personal fascination with the world of amphibians. She certainly made her audience think about the importance of conservation in maintaining the biodiversity that is so important to our planet, as you can hear from this short extract from her lecture.
