Hillingdon Secondary School Book of the Year 2010

On Thursday 18th March, the St. Helen's Book Club joined 16 other Hillingdon schools for the Hillingdon Secondary School Book of the Year 2010 event.

Each school gave a presentation on their favourite shortlisted book and, although there were a lot of nerves before the presentations, the standard of presentation was the best ever.

There was an air of excitement as the students then voted for their individual favourite book, culminating in a huge cheer when the Mayor announced the winner after lunch.

The six shortlisted titles were:
- 'Knife' by R J Anderson
- 'The Graveyard Book' by Neil Gaiman
- 'Gullstruck Island' by Frances Hardinge
- 'The Last Book in the Universe' by Rodman Philbrick
- 'Fever Crumb' by Philip Reeve
- 'Jiggy McCue Story: Kid Swap' by Michael Lawrence

The winning title was 'Jiggy McCue Story: Kid Swap' by Michael Lawrence.

All in all, it was a highly successful day and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of reading the shortlisted books and watching the other schools' presentations.
