Author Jane Hissey visits Little St. Helen's

Girls in Little St. Helen’s were very excited to welcome much-loved children’s author and illustrator Jane Hissey to school on Thursday 4th March as part of their World Book Day celebrations.

Jane is best known for her series of children’s books, ‘Old Bear and Friends’, which became the basis of a BAFTA award winning television series, ‘Old Bear Stories’.

She spoke to the girls about her stories and brought along some of her childhood toys, on which her books are based. She explained how they sparked off the ideas for her stories and also told the girls about the writing and printing processes that are involved in creating a book. The day ended with Jane signing copies of her books for the girls.

Little St. Helen’s teacher, Donna Masters, said of the visit: “It was a wonderful day, thoroughly enjoyed by all. A visit from an author is a excellent way to connect children with the magic of books and brings the writing process to life.”
