EDGE-ing towards Amphibian Conservation

On Thursday 11th March, Helen Meredith will visit St. Helen's to talk about the EDGE project, part of the work of the Zoological Society of London.

Helen is the Amphibians Co-ordinator for the EDGE project and her lecture will address issues such as: how we decide which animals to conserve; whether conserving the cute, furry animals should really be our priority; and what other species we should conserve and why.

The EDGE of Existence (www.edgeofexistence.org) programme is the only global conservation initiative to focus specifically on threatened species that represent a significant amount of unique evolutionary history.

Using a scientific framework to identify the world’s most Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) species, the EDGE of Existence programme highlights and protects some of the weirdest and most wonderful species on the planet.

Helen's lecture promises to be highly interesting and thought-provoking - all pupils and parents are welcome. The lecture starts in the Old Hall at 4.30pm.
