After School Hobbies

We offer a variety of After School Hobbies to girls in Year 2. Some of the hobbies that we offer include; Creative Club, Sewing, Cooking, Sewing, Out and About, Card Making, Letter Making, Model Making, ICT, Science, Sound and Rhythm and Board Games. Different hobbies are available throughout the year. Girls have the opportunity of choosing a different club each term.

ICT
The girls learn to use the beebots and the tracking bus to improve their directional skills. They are really excited when they learn how to use a Digiblue Movie Maker. The girls produce their own short video clips and learn how to put in special effects. They also learn how to take photos on the digital cameras and upload them on to the computer and at present they are making a book to help new girls settle into Little St. Helen’s.

Creative
The girls design and make a variety of useful things such as designing, weaving and decorating a table mat and making a bookmark.

Out & About
The girls take part in a variety of activities such as nature walks, playground games, skipping, using outside apparatus, football and games indoors. It is a very popular club which involves anything that the girls can take part in outside or inside in a large space.

Science
The aim of the club is to get the girls excited about Science. The girls conduct a variety of experiments every week which they thoroughly enjoy. Experiments include using a variety of materials to make boats. The girls find out which materials float and whether the shape of a boat affects this. They also experiment with paper to make a paper windmill.

Board Games
The girls learn the rules for various board games and how to take turns when playing games. They learn the 'ups and downs' of winning and losing when playing games.

Sewing
The girls embark on a different project each term. They practise their threading and cutting skills using simple stitches as independently as possible. They particularly enjoy making felt teddy bears with button eyes. Everything that is made goes home with pride.

Model Making
In Model Making the girls are exposed to and encouraged to use a variety of media to build their own models. They work collaboratively to produce some very creative designs.

Sound and Rhythm
The girls enjoy using a variety of percussion instruments and dancing in time to different beats.

Letter Making
This involves the production of a letter to a relative from the earliest stages of making a decorated piece of paper and envelope to the actual posting of the letter.
