Those little extras
Going to the Isle of Wight was like sleeping over at someone’s house with all your friends.
Drum Crazy came in to school in Arts Week and taught us to play the drums; at the end of the day we put on a concert for the Year 5s and 6s. I like Arts Week because we do lots of sticking, cutting and painting. It makes me feel as if I am an artist, I love the feeling of splashing my paintbrush into the paint. When I was making my fairy we used a special kind of glue which didn’t show through her wings. Arts week is a fantastic way to experience all the arts in one week.
Some girls are Friendship Monitors who wear red bibs and a red smiley face badge so that they can be seen clearly at playtime. They help people sort out problems they might have. Since we have had friendship monitors there have been fewer disagreements at playtime!
Residential trips are excellent because they give us a taste of freedom and responsibility. They teach us to appreciate the environment and we become environmentally friendly. We learn about different places and look for fossils on the beach. If you like getting up early then you can go for a beach walk before breakfast; there were about twenty of us on the first morning but by the end of the week there were two! It teaches you to work together as a team because you have to keep your room tidy. It is certainly a memory clear in my mind for many years.
Healthy Week was great because we started every day with exercises in the playground. Even the teachers and parents joined in!
We are lucky to have ballet in Junior School. It is on a Friday after school which is good because it doesn’t disrupt lessons. We take ballet exams and the teachers put your hair in buns, which I like because I look very different. Ballet is great fun, and every year we have a ballet display in which the senior girls dress up and dance in front of the Juniors. They look so beautiful. Sometimes we have real ballerinas who come to school and teach us about other ballets.
Mr Tukia came in and showed us how to paint lots of turtles. We did a good job!
Pirate Week was the best week ever. We made our own costumes and planned our own work for the week. We had to work in groups with girls from other classes. It was nice to work with different people.
UNICEF day is run by Year 6. They set up sideshows and stalls for the rest of the school and raise money for UNICEF. We even get to soak the Year 6s with wet sponges which is great fun! This year we raised £486.
