An Extraordinary School

Since Mrs Williamson asked ‘have you been bitten by the bug?’ (the Book Bug) I have started reading more and more and now I have definitely been bitten!

The lessons are fun but teach you all you need to know.

At St. Helen’s we have a School Council.  This lets the pupils have their say.  School Council is a way for students to express how they feel and think about school and to make changes.  We have been able to change a lot of things because of the School Council: like making a Sensory Garden, putting fans in the toilets, holding a Quiz Night, painting murals in the toilets and holding a Science Fair.  The Chairperson is usually from Years 5 or 6 but last year a girl from Year 4 was voted Chairperson.  Two people from each class go to the meetings and then report back to the class in the Class Council meetings.  The School Council has been a huge success.

My favourite lesson is Maths; it is fun and the regular mental maths tests keep your brain working.  We get to use the Smart Board in almost every lesson and play maths challenges on the internet or visit different maths sites.

Science is fun because you get to go in the Science Lab and do experiments.  You also get to go outside in the summer to look for woodlice – I found 13 but my friend didn’t like them.  We also get to look in the pond at the creatures living there.

St Helen’s is lucky to have drama lessons.  During Year 3 in drama we learn colours that represent emotions.  In Year 4 we created a person and lived their lives.  We made a play in Year 5.  There were three awards across the year group and our play won ‘Best Play’.  We are learning about the senses in Year 6.  I enjoy drama because you can become someone else and express your emotions.  We also have the best drama teacher!

Time flies very quickly here!

Our next Open Morning is on Wednesday 24th June 2009.  Please click here for more details and to book a place.
