The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is an option available to all girls from Year 10 upwards, which takes place after school on Friday afternoons at Merchant Taylors’ School. Girls can choose to join either the Royal Navy, Army, or RAF Section.
“The broad function of the Combined Cadet Force is to provide a disciplined organisation within a school so that boys and girls may develop powers of leadership by means of training to promote the qualities of responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverance, and a sense of service to the community… It is firmly believed that the self-confidence, and self-discipline required in Service life are equally vital in the civil life of the nation today.” JSP 313 Combined Cadet Force Manual.
The girls will have opportunities throughout their first two years to get involved in a range of activities through which they will develop their personal qualities and gain leadership skills. In the Sixth Form, girls are then able to take on positions of responsibility leading the junior cadets, as well as delivering most of the training activities.
Highlights of the CCF Year include Field Days away to military establishments, Inspection Day with visiting military VIPs, Annual Summer Camps and a variety of Courses.
